Hint: The dependency of one organism on another for its food requirement and the dependency of that organism on another organism creates a linear chain or a network like structure which is referred to as a food chain.

Complete Answer:
The ten percent law of energy transfer in a food chain is given by Raymond Lindemann.
The ten percent law of energy transfer states that when the energy is transferred from one trophic level to another. Only ten percent of energy transfers to the next trophic level and the ten percent of that energy level passes to the next energy and as a result there is a considerable decrease in the amount of energy till it reaches the top most trophic level.

Consider an example of simplest food chain:
Grass $\to$ Rabbit $\to$ Fox $\to$ Lion

There are four trophic levels in the food chain. Grass is present at producer level and forms the first stage of trophic level. It has a maximum amount of energy, receives solar energy and uses only a small proportion of it in food preparation and rabbit forms seemed trophic level and receives ten percent of energy from rabbit and fourth trophic level.

Therefore, from the above explanation the correct option is (D) Lindemann.

Note: The amount of energy decreases as it reaches a larger trophic level. The higher trophic level receives the least amount of energy whereas highest energy is present in lowest trophic level.
