As we know that in the second law of thermodynamics, temperature tells us about the quality of heat. A body at high temperature would have a high quality of heat i.e. the amount of heat rejected for getting a useful work is less.
We all know that temperature is measured by a device called thermometers. A thermodynamic variable is a basic parameter behind all the thermometers available. The thermodynamic variable could be a polynomial or power function and the relationship between the thermodynamic variable and the temperature may be direct or inverse which is further determined by the variable function. A thermodynamic variable adjusts in response to the temperature change.
Now next thing is to determine the unit required to represent temperature. Temperature is nothing without the standard values defined. Now we need to fix two points between the freezing state and the boiling state of the substance. In between these points, we need fundamental intervals. The temperature could be measured in various scales such as degree centigrade, degree Fahrenheit, and degree Rankine and Kelvin.
