We all know that the brain acts as a "command and control system" of our body. It usually controls all the voluntary action, rhythms of our body, activity of the endocrine system and human behaviour.
All the supreme commands of the endocrine system are controlled by the forebrain, mainly the hypothalamus. It is the smallest region of the brain that is located at the base of the brain, nearly the pituitary gland. It is the portion of the brain that contains a number of nuclei with a variety of functions. One of its major functions is to link the nervous system to the endocrine system via the pituitary gland.
It contains several groups of neurosecretory cells which secrete the hypothalamic hormones. It is largely the neural control center of all endocrine systems. We know that when we talk about the endocrine system we mean to talk about the glands that secrete hormones in the body for the functioning of the body.
Endocrine system is made up of pituitary glands, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, adrenal gland, pancreas, ovaries and testicles. The pituitary gland is a small pea- shaped gland that affects major parts like the brain, skin, mood, vision and growth. Thyroid gland helps in the metabolism, growth and development of the body. Para - thyroid gland helps in the release of the calcium by bones into the bloodstream. Adrenal gland is also called a stress hormone which is released at the time of stressful conditions. Pancreas makes the hormone called insulin that controls the level of sugar in our blood. All the hormones associated with ovaries and testes are also released by them.

Note: The word endocrine is derived from the Greek word "endo" means within and "crinis" which means to secrete. Endocrine glands usually let the hormones travel to cells in other parts of the body and also helps in controlling mood, growth, development, metabolism and reproduction. It usually monitors the amount of the hormones in the blood.
