Hint: Neurons are the structural and functional unit of the nervous system of animals. The main function of the neuron is to transport the electrical signal.
Complete step by step answer: The different types of neurons with their functions are as follows:
1. Bipolar neuron or interneuron: This type of neuron has one cell body and two axons. This neuron can transport signals in two axons but in a unidirectional way.
2. Unipolar neuron or sensory neuron: This type of neuron has one cell body and one axon. This helps to receive signals and transport them.
3. Multipolar neuron or motor neuron: This neuron has more than two processes. This has a single axon but multiple dendrites. This also helps to transport electrical signals.
Note: There is another type of neuron present known as a pseudounipolar neuron. This has a single elongated process with the cell body situated to the one side. Another type of neuron is axoaxonic neuron which has more than two processes and they have numerous dendrites. Axon is not separately distinguishable as the dendrites are too long. All the neurons have the same function that is to carry electrical and chemical nerve impulses.
