Hint: The use of nuclear energy for producing electrical energy is done in the nuclear power plant. In a nuclear power plant, the energy of nuclear fuel is used to provide a higher amount of heat which is used to produce electricity.
Complete step by step answer:
There are various advantages and disadvantages associated with a nuclear power plant, but here we will focus on the main aspect only. As we know that in nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel is used in the form of small plates that means with small amounts of nuclear fuel we can produce a high amount of electricity which is not possible in hydro and thermal power plants so this becomes the main advantage of producing electricity using nuclear energy.
As we know that nuclear fuel releases radiations which are harmful to the environment and living beings, so the main disadvantage of nuclear fuel is its continuous release of nuclear radiations.
Additional Information:
The production of a high amount of thermal energy in the nuclear power plant is used to change the phase of water by passing them through a heat exchanger so that the transfer of radiations could be avoided. This high pressure, high-temperature water is used to rotate the turbine, which produces electricity with the help of a generator.
Note:
To use the nuclear power plant in operation, we make proper channels to stop the spread of nuclear radiations by providing shields and large walls of concrete. There are three different types of radiations released by a nuclear fuel out of which gamma radiation is highly dangerous and life-threatening if a person comes in direct contact with the radiation.
