Hint: 1)It is a natural maritime port in the Udupi district of Karnataka.
2)It is a major hub for the Mogaveera fisherman community in Karnataka.
Complete answer:
St. Mary's Island is also called the Coconut Island and Thonsepar. It is located in the Arabian Sea near the coast of Malpe in Udupi, in the state of Karnataka, India. It is an archipelago of four interconnected islands. Coconut Island, North Island, Darya Bahadurgarh Island, and South Island -the four islands comprising St. Mary’s Island. Each island is special in its own way.
The main island has an attractive landscape and its beaches are impeccably clean and well-maintained. There are numerous crustaceans and seashells seen on the island. On the western side of the island, the beaches are fully covered in seashells; one can hardly see the sand and the water is crystal clear. However, the beach on the other side of the island is deeper and consists of sand and pebbles.
During off-monsoon months i.e., September to May, there is a boat service available from the tourist jetty at Malpe to St. Mary’s Island from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. But this service is shut during the time when the sea is rough. Malpe Beach is also a well known destination for holidays. There is a Seawalkway at Malpe beach from which St. Mary’s Island and Bhudargad island are visible.
Hence, the correct answer is option (B)
Note: 1)The prominent attractions in the North Island of St. Mary are the columnar basaltic (Volcanic) rock formations.
2)These structures are quite unique in India. Hence, the island is listed as one of the Geological Monuments of Karnataka and India by the Geological Survey of India in 1979.
