Hint: The kidneys are paired organs and are an important organ of the excretory system. Kidneys are made up of nephrons which are the basic functional units. The nephron consists of a filtering component known as the renal corpuscle and a renal tubule, which is responsible for the absorption and secretion of ions.

Complete answer:
The nephrons are the important and basic structural and functional unit of a kidney. Each nephron is composed of the renal corpuscle and its associated tubule which is the renal tubule. These function as a filtering component. These components help in the absorption and secretion of ions. The kidney consists of many nephrons which are present with their associated blood vessels.

The renal corpuscles of nephrons are the sites where the process of urine formation begins with the filtrate of blood plasma. Each renal corpuscle is made up of an epithelial cup which is called Bowman’s capsules. The Bowman’s capsule encloses a knot of capillaries and other elements known as the glomerulus.

The renal tubule obtains filtrate plasma from the glomerulus and processes it into the urine. Each tubule is differentiated into several specialized segments that are the proximal convoluted tubule, the Loop of Henle, and the distal convoluted tubule. The proximal tubule is a segment of the nephron’s renal tubule in kidneys. It emerges from the renal pole of the Bowman's capsule and extends to the beginning of the loop of Henle and can be divided into the proximal convoluted tubule (PCT) and the proximal straight tubule (PST).

Proximal convoluted tubule is the initial segment of the tubule. It is called proximal because it is nearest to the starting point and convoluted because it twists about. It is responsible for reabsorption of the filtered glucose into the capillaries so that it can be reabsorbed by the end of the proximal tubule.

So, the proximal convoluted tubule is the part of the nephron which is located exactly between Bowman's capsule and the loop of Henle in the renal cortex. The proximal convoluted tubule has a high ability for reabsorption. The brush border of the simple cuboidal epithelial cells present as the lining of the proximal convoluted tubules, increases surface area on the apical side.

Note: The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney, an excretory organ of humans. These nephrons consist of renal corpuscle and renal tubule. The renal tubule is divided into three distinct segments. The proximal convoluted tubule is the beginning segment of the renal tubule. After that loop of Henle is present. The proximal convoluted tubule present between the Bowman’s capsule of the renal corpuscle and the loop of Henle.
