Hint: All life forms are made up of cells. A cell is required for life processes to occur. It contains all the machinery in the form of cellular organelles. Based up on the cellular organization, cells are divided into mainly two types, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. They may be single cells or groups of cells.
Complete Answer:
Eukaryotic cells, as the name suggests, contain nucleus. It also consists of many other cell organelles such as golgi complex, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, cell wall and vacuole in plant cell, centrosome and centrioles, ribosomes and others. The genetic material is enveloped by membranes in the nucleus which is the main attribute of the eukaryotic cell.
Prokaryotic cell consists of cell membrane and genetic material. It lies freely in the cytoplasm bound by any membrane which is the major distinction between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. It contains ribosomes, flagella or cilia for locomotion and other inclusion bodies but does not contain golgi apparatus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, vacuole etc.
Prokaryotic cells are mostly bacterial cells and are unicellular. Eukaryotic cells are present in higher forms and form tissues.
But, cytoplasm where the life processes occur is present in common in both the types of cells.
Hence, prokaryotes do not contain Nucleus and other membrane bound cell organelles.
Note:
Cells differ in size , shape, activites, presence. The shape of the cell varies with the function they perform. DNA replication in eukaryotes occurs inside the nucleus and in bacteria, the way of reproduction is cell division and the exchange of genetic material between two cells i.e, They sexually reproduce through conjugation, transformation and transduction.
