Hint: The question has been taken from a poem written by Kit Wright, called ‘The Dad and the Cat and the Tree’. The poet here is talking about the entire process of saving a cat which is stuck on a tree.
Complete answer:
The poem ‘The Dad and the Cat and the Tree’ is a humorous one based on four main characters: the poet himself, his father or dad, his mother or mom and a cat that is stuck on a tall tree. On a fine morning, when the poet’s dad saw this stray cat stuck on the tree, he decided to save the cat and show his bravery. From then on began his endeavours to save the cat by means of different ways.
First up was Plan A, in which the dad took out the ladder from the garden shed and placed it against the tree, which itself was quite high and not so firmly grounded. This raised the mom’s concern and she warned him to be careful, lest he may fall. However, he confidently dismissed mom’s warnings and proceeded to climb the ladder. As luck may have it, the ladder slipped and he fell down with a thud on a flower bed.
This, however, did not discourage the dad from trying. He, therefore, decided to execute his Plan B. That included getting hold of a branch and swinging by means of it to save the cat. When he did try to perform this stunt, the branch which he caught hold of broke, and he landed flatly on the ground again. His Plan B failed as well.
Now the dad decided to execute his final plan, which is Plan C. Accordingly, he climbed the wall of the garden and from there, he climbed right onto the branch on which the cat was stuck. This time the dad did not fall. However, the cat was scared by the dad’s sudden appearance and sprung from there down to the ground. As it landed safely, it appeared as if it had a smug and naughty expression on its face.
Therefore, even though Plan C was a success, the dad got stuck in the branch of the tree instead of the cat.
Note: Kit Wright is a British author who has mainly written a collection of children’s books and poems and was educated at Oxford University. He has won around 8 major literary awards for his works. It is a humorous poem about the poet's cat getting stuck in a tree, and his father trying to cut it down, only to become stranded himself on the tree.
