Hint: They are not suberized, remain thin and found in old roots of plants and allow symplastic flow, these are usually found in monocot plant root. These cells are permeable for the solute but in other plants they are thickened and do not allow any movement.
Complete answer:
Passage cells are the unthickened cells in endodermis of the older roots they are usually found in monocot root, to continue the symplastic movement or flow to the inside. Passage cells function as to allow the movement of solute like calcium and magnesium into the stele. But most of the cases except monocot root, endodermal cells prevent the water and other solute which are dissolved in water. Water moves in or out of the xylem that is part of apoplast.
A. cortex:- This tissue is composed of unspecialized cells present between the epidermis and the vascular tissue of stem and roots. It is mainly composed of large thin walled parenchyma cells off the ground tissue. Cortex form the cells which further constitute the cork, and responsible for the movement of material into the cylinder of root via diffusion and also act as food storage tissue in form of starch.
B. Pericycle:- it is non vascular parenchyma or sclerenchyma cell which are present inside the endodermis and outer part of the stele of the plant. It is considered vascular tissue because it arises from procambium. In dicot plants root, it strengthens the root and protects the vascular bundle. Vascular cambium is completely secondary in origin and arises from a portion of pericycle tissue. It regulates the formation of lateral roots.
C. Pith :- It is also known as medulla which is the tissue of the stem of vascular plants, that is composed of spongy parenchyma cells which store and transport nutrients throughout the plant body.
So, the correct answer is option D.
Note: Pepsinogen and prorennin are the two proenzyme which are secreted by the chief cells pepsinogen convert into pepsin by the action of HCl which digest the protein and prorennin convert into renin by the action of HCl which convert milk protein casein to paracasein.
