Hint: We have to state in which quadrants the value of the point of an ordinate is negative . We solve this question using the concept of the value of the points in the particular quadrant . We should also have the knowledge of the point which is stated as ordinate , the axis which it is parallel to . Using imaginary values we will state the quadrants in which the value of the point of ordinate would be negative in the four quadrants and this gives the required value of the quadrants .
Complete answer: Given : Ordinate of a point is negative We know that there are four quadrants in a two coordinate system i.e. the x-axis and the y-axis .
Also , we know that the value of the \[x\] and y points in the four quadrants is given as :
In quadrant \[I\] the value of the point \[x\] is positive and \[y\] is positive
In quadrant \[II\] the value of the point \[x\] is negative and \[y\] is positive
In quadrant \[III\] the value of the point \[x\] is negative and \[y\] is negative
In quadrant \[IV\] the value of the point \[x\] is positive and \[y\] is negative
Now , we know that the point which is parallel to the y axis is stated as the Ordinate and the point parallel to the x axis is stated as the Abscissa .
Hence , the Ordinate of a point is negative in quadrant \[III\] and \[IV\] .
Thus , the correct option is \[\left( 3 \right)\] .
Note:
The terms which corresponds to the value of point \[x\] is stated as the abscissa the point of the abscissa is parallel to the x-axis and the term which correspond to the value of the point \[y\] is stated as the ordinate the point of the ordinate is parallel to the y-axis . If the value of abscissa is positive then the point should lie in either quadrant \[I\] or quadrant \[IV\] . Similarly , If the value of abscissa is negative then the point should lie in either quadrant \[II\] or quadrant \[III\] .
