- Daniel Shays (1747 – 1825) was a farmer, and an American soldier, who was best known as one of the leaders of the Shays' Rebellion.
- Wholesale merchants' activities drove the retail economy in Massachusetts Bay's coastal areas and the fertile Connecticut River Valley.

Complete answer:
The Shays' Rebellion was an armed revolt in Western Massachusetts and Worcester in reaction to a citizenry debt crisis and in opposition to the state government's increased attempts to raise taxes from individuals and their businesses. During the year’s 1786 and1787, the battle took place mostly in and around Springfield. In a protest against civil rights and economic injustices, Daniel Shays led 4,000 rebels (Shaysites). Daniel Shays resigned from the army without pay in 1780 and returned home to find himself in court for not settling his debts. He soon realized he wasn't alone in his inability to pay his debts, and he started putting together a debt relief plan. 1n 1787, Shays' rebels marched on the federal Springfield

Armory to capture the federal Springfield Armory's arms and tried to overthrow the government. But it was an unsuccessful attempt. Since the federal government was unable to support troops to put down the uprising, the Massachusetts State militia and a privately financed local militia were called in to put it down. The Shays' Revolt showed the government's weakness under the Articles of Confederation.

Many people, including George Washington, called for the federal government to be strengthened in order to put down uprisings in future. As a result of Shays' rebellion, those leaders who desired a new constitution for the United States gained momentum. The Constitutional Convention was called as a result of it. The US Constitution was written by the men who attended this conference. As a result, Shays' Rebellion influenced the writing of the Constitution.

Note:
- In 1782, Job Shattuck of Groton, Massachusetts, mobilized people to physically discourage tax collectors from doing their jobs, and was one of the first protests against the government.
- A second, larger-scale riot occurred on 3 February 1783, in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, along the Rhode Island border, when a mob seized and returned property confiscated by a constable.
- In 1785, James Bowdoin was elected as governor after Hancock's resignation. He imposed a high tax burden and accelerated the collection of back taxes.
