Complete answer:
All living beings are made up of cells. In unicellular organisms, all essential tasks are done by a single cell. For example, in amoeba a single cell carries out breathing, ingestion of food and respiratory gases, respiration and excretion. While, there are millions of cells in multicellular organisms. Most of these cells are specially built to execute a few activities. Cells specialized in one role are frequently clustered together in the body. This implies that a certain function is done by a cluster of cells at a specific location in the body. This cluster of cells, called tissues, is organized and designed to have the highest possible quality of work. Blood, phloem, and muscle are also forms of tissue. The tissue is created by a group of cells that are identical in shape and operate together to perform a specific task.
In 1665 Robert Hooke first found cells. With the assistance of a simple microscope, he saw the cells in a cork portion. With the enhanced microscope, Leeuwenhoek (1674) first found free living cells in the pool water. Robert Brown identified the nucleus in the cell in 1831. In 1839, the definition of the fluid content of the cell was coined by Purkinje. Two biologists, Schwann (1839) and Schleiden (1838), proposed the cell theory that all plants and animals consist of cells and that the cell is the fundamental unit of life. Virchow (1855) generalized the theory of cells further to suggest that the all cells arise from pre-existing cells. When the electron microscope was discovered in 1940, the complex structure of the cell and its numerous organelles could be observed and understood.
Thus, the correct answer is option B. i.e., R. Virchow.
Note:The cell theory is a universally accepted historic scientific theory. According to the cell theory, all organisms like plants and animals are composed of one or more cells and a new cell arises from pre-existing cells.
