This park is now known as Jim Corbett National Park which is located in Uttarakhand. India had only five national parks till 1970. There are a total number of 105 national parks in India as of recorded in 2020. National parks of India comprise an area of 40501.13 sq km.
According to the definition given by the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests- A national park is an area that can be notified by the state government to be constituted as a national park whether it is within a sanctuary or not. An area can be notified as a national park by the reason of its ecological, geomorphological or zoological importance for the purpose of protecting and developing wildlife or environment in it. Human activities are prohibited inside the national park except the activities which are permitted by the Chief Wildlife Warden of the State.
