Hint:The states of matter can be considered as the specific states in which the different matter can exist. The states of matter define the physical property of the matter and the nature of the molecular structure.
Complete step by step answer:
The states of matter are the physical states in which the matter exists when in a particular environment. The importance of different states of matter can be understood according to molecular nature depending on the physical properties. There are three states of matter which are: $\left( a \right)$ Solid, $\left( b \right)$ Liquid, $\left( c \right)$ Gas.
The solid-state can be defined as the incompressible state of matter where the molecules are very closely associated. The forces between the molecules are very high and hence there is a very low level of intermolecular spaces. Hence the solid-state has higher rigidity and a specific structure of the compound. The liquid state is the less closely packed molecular structure where there is a higher chance of having intermolecular space. Thus, the attractive forces between the molecules are less strong than that of all solids. The molecules are so loosely packed that they take the shape of the place where they are present and have no specific shape of its own. The gases are the specific states with the most loosely packed molecules and hence the space between the molecules is so much that they can easily diffuse. This has the weakest force of attraction between the molecules and that is why there is no definite shape of the gases.
Note:
Compounds can exist in different states of matter based on the physical condition in which the compound exists. There can be physical conditions like temperature, pressure which can change the state of matter of any compound.
