Hint: Enzymes are the biological catalysts. The increase the rate of a biological reaction. In protein digestion, various enzymes are employed. The enzymes in protein digestion make the process of breakdown of proteins easier and faster.
Complete answer:
Proteins are the complex molecules which are nutritious in nature. Amino acids make a polypeptide chain known as protein. Amino acids are the monomers of proteins which make proteins. Amino acids are of two types, that is, essential and non-essential amino acids. There arises a need to break the proteins into smaller and simpler substances for their absorption and usage by the human and the animal body.
Gastric juices contain enzymes known as pepsin. Pepsin is an enzyme which is originally produced in an inactive state and is known as pepsinogen. Pepsinogen is converted into pepsin by the action of hydrochloric acid. Pepsin digests or acts upon the complex proteins and forms peptones and proteases.
Pancreas as an endocrine gland when it secretes enzymes for digestion. Pancreas secretes proteolytic enzymes. These enzymes are trypsin and chymotrypsin. Both these enzymes break down proteins and peptones into dipeptides. These di peptides are also not suitable for absorption by the body. So these dipeptides are again broken into simpler mono peptides by the action of intestinal juices. Intestinal juices contain the enzyme called Di peptidases. This enzyme breaks down peptides into amino acids. Hence the digestion of proteins gets completed in the intestine.
Note: Gastric juices along with enzymes also contain other secretions from glands such as water, mucus, electrolyte, etc.
