Hint: 1)Mir Jafar gave ‘revenue units’ to the East India Company to become the Nawab.
2)This system of administration was introduced by Sher Shah Suri or the Suri Empire.

Complete answer:
During the Mughal Rule, the territories of the 24 parganas was under the administration of Satgaon (a major port which was the capital of Southern Bengal for some time in the Ancient and medieval age). After the end of the Mughal Rule, the administration was transferred to that of Hooghly Chakla, which was under the rule of Murshid Quli Khan (the first Nawab of Bengal).

In 1757, the Mir Jafar wanted to be the Nawab. He conspired against Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah, and helped the British during the Battle of Plassey. This allowed Mir Jafar to become the Nawab. Since it was the British who had actually fought the battle and defeated the Nawab, the British demanded the zamindari of the 24 parganas. Hence, Mir Jafar conferred all the authorities of the 24 parganas to the British East India Company.

Hence, the correct answer is option (C)

Note: During the partition of Bengal in 1905, some portion of the parganas around the Sundarbans were detached from India and made a part of East Bengal.
In Independent India, the 24 Parganas are divided into two districts, as per the suggestion of an administrative reform committee.
On 1st March 1983, the division was executed and two districts were created; North 24 Panagaras and the South 24 Panagaras.
