Hint: Reaction is a process in which one or more reactants react together to produce one or more products or by-products. In the given question methyl amine reacts with acetyl chloride to form new products by rearrangement of different atoms.
Complete step by step answer:
In a chemical reaction new products are formed by using the known reactants. They are called reactants since they react together to form new compounds or elements.
We perform different reactions to obtain different compounds for different uses in labs, industries as well as in daily life.
There are different types of reaction like redox, displacement, double displacement, endothermic reaction, exothermic reaction and so on but the basic idea of rearrangement of atoms and formation of new products remain the same.
In the given question we have methyl amine and acetyl chloride as reactants,
Methyl amine is $C{{H}_{3}}-N{{H}_{2}}$
Acetyl chloride is $C{{H}_{3}}-CO-Cl$
Now both of them combine to form N-methylacetamide which is $C{{H}_{3}}-CO-NH-C{{H}_{3}}$ and HCl as a by-product. But our main product is N-methylacetamide. So the correct option is C.
Also, $C{{H}_{3}}-CO-NH-C{{H}_{3}}$ is same as $C{{H}_{3}}-NH-CO-C{{H}_{3}}$ because we have same carbon atoms on either side of the functional group.
hence option c is correct.
Note: This reaction takes place in the presence of pyridine and heat energy. The conditions are not given in the question but the reaction can’t take place without the help of them. Therefore, this is an endothermic reaction since we are providing heat for the reaction to take place.
