The members of the legislative assembly are elected by the people directly through assembly elections. Either the Governor of the State nominates the members of the legislative council or they are elected indirectly. One-third of the total members of the legislative council is elected by the legislative assembly, another third are elected by the local bodies like a municipality or other local authorities, one-twelfth of the members are elected by teachers, and other one-twelfth of the members are elected by graduates of the state.
