The green structures on the base of the flower are called sepals, and the green color holder of the flower at the base of the flower along with the sepals are called the calyx. The calyx performs a crucial role in the flowering plant. As the flower is forming, it is closed tightly into a bud which is ovoid in shape. The sepals are the outermost part of the flower. It is the first part of the flower to be fully developed and is the only thing that can be seen in the flower while it is in bud form. It protects the developing flower and prevents it from drying out because of the outer atmosphere. The sepal main function or purpose is to protect the flower and the reproductive organs in the flower which is important to produce seeds.
