Already we know that metals are good conductors which allow the current to easily flow through them. So, the statement is correct when we say that electric current can pass through metals.
Hence, statement (a) is true in this case.
Now, we know that jute is a bad conductor or in other words it is an insulator. As a result it will not allow the current to flow through it. So, we cannot use a jute string to make a circuit instead of metal wires.
Hence, statement (b) is false in this case.
As we know that thermocol is also a bad conductor. So, in this case also it will not allow the current to flow through it.
