Hint: If we want to make mass by volume solution then the solute must be taken in grams and if the solution is volume by volume then the solute must be taken in ml. When the percentage of the solution is converted into grams or volume then take the volume of the solvent 100 ml for convenience.
Complete answer:
In the question we are asked to make the 10 percent solution, so the percentage of solute in the solution will be 10 percent. As we know that the solution is made up of only two components, i.e., solute which is in less quantity, and solvent which is in more quantity.
Most solutions are made by mass by volume (w/v) or volume by volume (v/v). If we want to make mass by volume solution then the solute must be taken in grams and if the solution is volume by volume then the solute must be taken in ml. When the percentage of the solution is converted into grams or volume then take the volume of the solvent 100 ml for convenience.
10 percent solution means the solute is only 10% in the solution, so taking the volume of the solvent 100 ml then the mass of the solute will be either 10 gram or 10 ml. For example, 10% solution of sodium chloride ( ) means 10 grams of sodium chloride is mixed in 100 ml of water.
Note:
As the percentage of the solution increases the concentration of the solution also increases, for example, a 10% percent solution will be a dilute solution but an 80% solution will be a concentrated solution.
