Hint: The plants that possess flowers also possess fruits and are called the flowering plants. These flowering plants are more advanced plants with more complexity in structure and life processes. They help in the process of production of new plants.
Complete answer:
The flowering plants possess seeds and are thus called seed-bearing plants. They produce well-developed flowers that contain the reproductive parts of these plants. These are more advanced forms of the plant that possess complexity in both structure and function. They have well-differentiated reproductive structures that are found on the flowers. These plants have seeds within which the embryo is located along with the stored food material. They also have well-developed and differentiated vascular tissues. They reproduce by seeds in place of spores. They are also called phanerogams.
The main purpose of the flowers in the case of the flowering plants is to allow the process of sexual reproduction. Whenever a plant undergoes sexual reproduction they essentially produce seeds which are the result of reproduction in the plants. During the process of fertilization, out of the two sperm cells, one fuses with the egg cell near the micropylar end while the other one fuses with two polar nuclei that are located in the big central cell. Here, after fusion diploid zygote is formed along with the triploid primary endosperm nucleus and thus, this fertilization is termed double fertilization.
While the fruits formed after the process of sexual reproduction will help in the protection of the seeds and later will help in their dispersal resulting in the process of pollination. This pollination again will help the seed to undergo sexual reproduction and thus the cycle continues.
Note:
Angiosperms are a group of flowering plants which are the most abundantly found fauna at present. These plants result in the growth of the beautiful fragrant flowers of various shapes, colors, and sizes. Their sex organs are composed of female sex organs as pistil and male sex organs as carpel. Their seeds are enclosed in fruits. For example bamboo, orchids, cactus, etc. Plants are an important source of oxygen in the atmosphere and are an essential part of almost every ecosystem, from marine to terrestrial.
