Largest producer of coffee in India: Karnataka is famous for producing many crops such as food crops (paddy, pulses, maize), commercial crops (sugarcane, tobacco, cotton), oilseeds (groundnut, sesame, sunflower) and plantation crops (coffee, coconut, rubber). The rich and diverse agriculture of the state contributes 28.6% to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). 64.6 percent of the state's geographical area is cultivated and 56.5 percent of Karnataka's population is made up of farmers and agricultural laborers.
