Hint:Indian Railways is one of the largest government-managed operations in the country. Thus, it is a lot of pressure on a centralized railway management system because of its very large size. Thus, in India, the railway system has been divided into zones.

Complete Answer:Indian Railways is a Government authority, under the Ministry of Railways, which runs India’s National railways. It is one of the longest railway networks in this world. It not only facilitates the transportation of passengers and goods but it also accelerates the country’s economic growth and thereby contributes to the growth of the economy. It divides its operations into many zones and these zones are further divided into divisions because of their vast size. There are a total of 18 zones and 70 divisions in the Indian Railways. The most significant development in the Indian Railways has been that of the Konkan Railway along the western coast which provides a direct link between Mumbai and Mangaluru. For the masses, the railway has continued to remain the main means of transport. The Railway network is relatively less dense as compared to metropolitan states in the hilly regions, northeastern states, central parts of India, and Rajasthan.

Thus, option (B) is correct.

Additional Information: The newest addition of Metro Rail in some of the urban states has revolutionized the urban transportation system. It has helped in curbing the pollution levels by a large amount in the urban centers.

Note: The Indian Railways is the third-largest railway network in the world with a route length of 68,155 Km as of March 2019. 40,576 Km or $64\% $ of all the broad gauge routes are electrified as of August 2020.
