Complete answer:
In the middle of the range of Satpura in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh, a pristine wildlife habitat known as Satpura National Park is situated. The park was brought to light by “Captain J. Forsyth”. He was a British officer who was in action against Indian leaders who were fighting for India’s freedom in 1857. The park was first introduced in 1981 by Dr Salim Ali, who was a famous bird watcher.
The park was later added to Tiger Project Network in 1999 and it became the Bodi-Satpura Tiger Reserve. Well, this place fascinates archaeologists as there are numerous rock shelters of the ancient period that are embellished with beautiful paintings.

Flora and Fauna of Satpura National Park

With around 1300 species of flora including teak, sal, tendu, bel, bamboos, grasses, bushes, and many other medicinal plants, the vegetation of Satpura Park looks striking.

The fauna of Satpura National Park is an astonishing jungle treat for wildlife enthusiasts. Different species of animals can be spotted here, like the leopard, tiger, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, bhedki, rhesus, monkey chinkara, wild boar, buck, fox, flying squirrel, to name a few.

The unique feature of Satpura National Park is the presence of “Indian Giant squirrel” and “White Bison”.

Apart from these, there are also a variety of species of birds like Malabar pied hornbills, crested hawk eagles, honey buzzards, paradise flycatchers, thrushes, pheasants, peafowl, etc.

Due to its unique terrain and many water bodies like the Tawa reservoir, it offers great bird watching opportunities.

Note:
Satpura National Park forms the core zone of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve, which includes the “Bori Wildlife Sanctuary” and “Pachmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary” as the buffer zones.
Bori Sanctuary was in fact, the first forest to be brought under conservation in the country in 1882, which led to the inception of the Indian Forest Department.
