Pingali Venkayya was born on 2 August 1876 at Bhatlapenumarru, near Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Being a national freedom fighter from Indian National Congress he died in poverty in 1963 and was Forgotten by the society and by his own Congress party. A postage stamp was issued in his memory in 2009.
