Hint: Chlorophyceae is one of the classes of Algae. This class represents green freshwater algae. Here first we will see the sexual modes of reproduction in chlorophyceae and then will explain each mode of reproduction.
Complete Answer:
Sexual modes of reproduction in Chlorophyceae:
In chlorophyceae there are three modes of sexual reproduction. These are-
(I) Isogamy
(II) Anisogamy
(III) Oogamy
(I) Isogamy: In isogamy, the gametes of both the sexes i.e. male and female sexes are similar in shape and size.
- So, one cannot classify these gametes as male gamete or female gamete.
- So, the fusion of these types of similar gametes result in isogamy.
(II) Anisogamy: In anisogamy, the gametes of both the sexes i.e. male and female are either dissimilar in size or shape.
- So, one can easily distinguish between them.
- The fusion of these types of gametes result in Anisogamy.
(III) Oogamy: Oogamy is a type of Anisogamy.
- Here the size of male gamete is smaller than that of the female gamete.
- The fusion of smaller male gamete and larger female gamete results in oogamy.
So, in the above discussion, we have seen that in chlorophyceae, sexual reproduction occurs by isogamy, anisogamy and oogamy.
Hence, the option B is the right answer.
Note: The green algae have chlorophyll present in them that’s why the class of green algae was named as chlorophyceae. And reproduction is too essential for the continuity of life on Earth. So every organism on this Earth reproduces either it be unicellular or multicellular.
