Hint: Endosperm is a tissue which is formed after fertilization inside the seed to provide nutrition to the embryo of the flowering plant.
Complete step by step answer:
1 :- Endosperm is the result of the process of double fertilization, in which one pollen grains are fused with two female gametophytes or the embryo sac.
2 :- Endosperm is rich in nutrients and the oils it provides nutrients to the growing embryo of the plant and helps in the growth of the new plant by the process of reproduction.
3 :- Endosperm is formed in higher plants like angiosperm, all angiosperm have endosperm but in most of the plant it is completely utilized by the growing embryo and in some of the plants it remains even after the complete development of the embryo.
4 :- In angiosperm there are three types of endosperm growth
-Nuclear
-Cellular
-Helobial
5 :- In the initial stage of endosperm development only nucleus divides rapidly and form a large number of nuclei for endosperm development in this way the size of endosperm increases.
6 :- As endosperm is formed by pollen grain (each pollen grain is haploid) and one female gametophyte with ploidy diploid and there are two polar nuclei with which the pollen grain is fused . So, the ploidy of endosperm is 2n + 2n + n = 5n
7 :- From the above discussion we can conclude that the ploidy of the endosperm will be pentaploid.
Option B is correct.
Note:
-When endosperm is left after the complete formation of embryo then it is known as ruminant endosperm.
-The coconut water is an example of ruminant endosperm.
