Hint: It is a hormone that is produced by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland (pars distalis). They are also termed as gonadotropins as they stimulate gonadal activity.

Complete answer:
ICSH acts on ‘Leydig cells’. ICSH stands for Interstitial Cell Stimulating Hormone.n the male this hormone stimulates the interstitial cells of the testes to produce testosterone. This hormone is chemically identical to the LH (Luteinizing Hormone) of the female. Gonadotropin- releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulates the release of follicle- stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. GnRH is a hypothalamic hormone that stimulates the pituitary gland to synthesize and release gonadotropins.
- In females, ICSH is known as LH. LH is responsible for stimulating the ovulation of the fully matured Graafian follicles. It keeps up the corpus luteum.
- ICSH acts synergistically with FSH (Follicle- Stimulating Hormone) .
- ICSH commands the Leydig cells that are responsible for the secretion of androgen. Androgen stimulates the male reproductive character along with secondary sexual characters including the growth of body and facial hairs and changes in voice.
Effects in males
- ICSH is released from the pituitary gland and is managed by pulses of gonadotropin- releasing hormone. When levels of testosterone are low, the pituitary gland is stimulated to release ICSH. As the testosterone levels increase, it will act on the pituitary via a negative feedback loop. It inhibits the release of gonadotropin- releasing hormone and ICSH accordingly.
- Changes in ICSH and testosterone blood levels and pulse secretions are produced by small changes in sexual arousal in human males.
So, the correct answer is ‘Leydig cells’.

Note: The endocrine glands and hormone-producing diffused tissues/cells located in different parts of our body constitute the endocrine system. It includes the pituitary gland, pineal gland, thyroid gland, adrenal glands, pancreas, parathyroid glands, thymus, and gonads.
