Hint:We know that when any substance is applied with heat it becomes hot. But heat is a form of energy. But heat cannot make substances hot. So something else makes substances hot.

The temperature of a body or substance is the degree of hotness or coldness of that body or substance. But heat is produced when we increase the temperature. It is a kind of energy. Heat can be transferred from one substance to another. This occurs only when the temperature is increased or decreased. When temperature is increased, the substance becomes hot and when temperature is decreased, the substance becomes cold.
We know that during boiling of water, we burn the gas, thereby the temperature is increased. When we give more heat energy, temperature is increased. We can remove heat to make the object cold. When we keep a hot object at room temperature, heat will transfer from hot object to the surrounding because the surrounding has a low heat energy.
Thus we can say that the temperature makes things hot or cold.
