Complete answer: The full form of UNESCO is United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural organisation. It is a special agency of the United Nation whose aim is to promote peace and security through international cooperation. UNESCO has 193 member states and 11 associate members and non-government, intergovernmental and private sector. It has 53 regional field offices and 199 national commissions. Its headquarters are in Paris, France. It was founded in 1945 after the second world war.
The five major programs of UNESCO are education, Natural science, Social and Human science, culture and Communication/ Information. To secure world heritage sites of Cultural and natural Importance, a UNESCO world heritage site list has been created in which 38 Indian sites are also included.
The first general conference was from 19 November to 10 December 1946 and the constitution was amended in November 1954. It has launched several initiatives and global movements, such as Education For All.
Note: India is a member of UNESCO convention. It has 38 sites which include 30 cultural sites, 7 natural sites and 1 mixed site. Few of them which are very famous even in the world are Taj Mahal, Red fort complex, Ajanta and Ellora caves and Qutub Minar.
