Hint:Plateau also called high plane or tableland in geology and physical geography is a region or a flat area of land that is relatively higher than other areas. Various reasons can be responsible for the formation of plateaus including extrusion of lava, volcanic magma, erosion done by water and glaciers.

There are mainly more than seven plateaus in India. Some of the major Peninsular plateau regions of India are: The Marwar upland lies in the east of the Aravali range and it is also known as the Upland of eastern Rajasthan.The central highland lies in the east of the Marwar Upland and it is also called the Madhya Bharat Pathar.The Bundelkhand Upland, situated in the south of river Yamuna between the Vindhyan Scarplands and Central Highland. The Malwa Plateau is in the shape of a triangle and is surrounded by the Aravali range in the west and Bundelkhand in the east.
The Deccan Plateau is bounded by Satpura and Vindhya in the north-west and the Mahadev and Maikal in the North. In the west, it has western ghats and in the east, it has the Eastern Ghats. The Baghelkhand lies to the Eats of the Mailkal range and it is made up of granite in the east and limestone and sandstone in the west. The Meghalaya Plateau is also called the Shillong Plateau and lies in the north-east side beyond the Rajmahal hills.The Chotanagpur Plateau is situated in the north-eastern projection of the Indian Peninsula.Plateau regions of India are very important as they serves as a storehouse of minerals containing very rich mineral deposition. They are the source of several waterfalls like the two famous waterfalls are the Jog falls in Karnataka and Hundru Falls in the Chota Nagpur Plateau.
