Hint: The formula or chemical formula of a compound is going to represent the chemical elements which are present in the given chemical. Formula also represents how many numbers of the same types of elements are present in the chemical.

Complete answer:
- In the question it is asked to write the formula for copper (II) chloride.
- We are supposed to write the formula to represent the chemical symbols for copper (II) chloride.
- In the given chemical copper (II) chloride there are two parts, one part is cationic part and another part is anionic part.
- The cationic part is cupric because copper is in ‘+2’ oxidation in copper (II) chloride and the anionic part is chloride.
- The chemical formula of cupric is Cu2+ and the chemical formula for chloride anion is Cl .
- The charge on the cupric cation is ‘+2’ and the charge on the chloride anion is ‘-1’.
- Means two moles of chloride anion is going to combine with one mole of cupric cation to stabilize the charge on the cupric cation.
- The chemical reaction of two moles of chloride anion is going to combine with one mole of cupric cation and it is as follows.
Cu2++2ClCuCl2
- Therefore the chemical formula of copper (II) chloride is CuCl2 .

Note:
Copper (II) chloride is also known as cupric chloride and also called copper dichloride. Copper dichloride is in yellowish-brown color in anhydrous form. When copper dichloride is going to react with water then appears in green color.
