Complete answer: The ‘Laws of Cricket’ have been written in 1744. There are 42 laws which have been owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) since 1788. These laws explain how the game is to be played around the world. Around six times, the laws have been re-coded. The seventh law was released in October 2017.
Before the existence of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the MCC was the private club which was also the cricket governing body. The copyright of the laws rests with the MCC. Only MCC has the power and the right to change these laws.
The origin of cricket is not known. The first recorded game took place in Guildford in the 16th century. Earlier it was referred to as only the ‘boys game’. However, with time all adults began to play this game. During the $17^{th}$ century, cricket became a game for betting which attracted high stakes. From the $1^{st}$ of October,2017, the rules have been updated to their current version. They are called ‘Laws of Cricket 2017 Code’.
