Hint:Coordinate geometry is one of the branches of mathematics. It basically studies the position of the points in the plane. It is also known as analytics geometry. This will open a wide variety of branches and easy calculations of geometrical shapes. The distance between two points, area of triangle, position of vertices of square, focus of ellipse, etc. many things can be found out using the coordinate geometry.

Complete step by step answer:
As we dive deep into the geometry aspect of mathematics. There are three types of geometry; Euclidean, hyperbolic and elliptical. As we turn the pages of history and see the information we can find out that Euclid is described as the father of geometry. He was said to have lived around the 300 B.c. He was a Greek Mathematician as we can read from records.

But, coordinate geometry may be the geometry but better be described with the help of a cartesian plane. This is named so after the French mathematician René Descartes (1596-1650). According to a famous legend, we hear that he used to observe his ceiling from his bed late at night. He wondered if the corners could be used as reference points.

It is then extended to the idea that we have today. The idea with the axes. He was allowing the axes to become infinitely long in both the directions. He then used the bottom and left part labelled as negative.

As we can see the resemblance through today's coordinate geometry these are very very significant ideas. As the work of this mathematician was one of it’s kind and being used for centuries and every new developed technologies count it’s significance.

Hence, René Descartes is known as the Father of Coordinate Geometry.

Note:Euclid’s geometry starts from very basic from points, lines and spans to the whole of existing geometry. Euclid’s postulates are the proof of the existing work done by the scientist. As we say Euclid is the father of geometry, the father of algebra is al-khwarizmi.
