Hint: Biodiversity is primarily the complete variety of life on our planet Earth.
A common measure of Biodiversity is known as the richness of species which is nothing but the number of species in any area.
Complete answer:
The 8 major causes of biodiversity are :-
1. Invasive Species.
2. Habitat Loss and Fragmentation.
3. Over-exploitation of species.
4. Pollution.
5. Global Climate Change.
6. Illegal Wildlife Trade.
7. Population Growth and Overconsumption.
8. Species extinction.
So, let's talk about Climate change and Over-exploitation.
> Climate Change - This is mainly associated with global warming, which is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, by industries and by other inappropriate and irresponsible human activities. Fossil fuel combustion emits greenhouse gases which increase the absorption of infrared radiations and trap the heat, thus creating an impact on the patterns of rainfall and temperature. Moreover, climate changes because of human activities speed up the process of species extinction, without allowing the species any sufficient time to adapt to these changes. Many species are not able to cope up with these changes and thus, die.
> Overexploitation - It is basically the excessive harvesting of organisms beyond them being capable for their existing populations to replace their loss. This results in some species being decreased to extremely low numbers and others being extinct. It includes activities like - overfishing, overhunting, etc. Over-exploitation of organisms and resources costs more environmental degradation than earning.
Note:
> A habitat is the place where a plant or animal naturally lives and grows.
> Loss of Biodiversity greatly affects the humans and other organisms environmentally.
> Humans depend upon different animals, plants & other organisms for their food requirements, medicines, etc.
