As we know the measurement of temperature, it is important to know the definition of temperature. Temperature is defined as the degree of hotness and coldness of a system, which primarily indicates the direction of heat transfer between one or more thermodynamic systems. The temperature is different from heat. The heat is defined as the energy which is transferred across the system which can change the net total of the internal energy of the system whereas, the temperature is a quantity that manifests out of the heat energy, that measures the degree to decide the direction and the extent of transfer of heat energy from one system to another. The Kelvin temperature scale was adapted from the Celsius temperature scale by William Thompson, a British scientist, who was later called Lord Kelvin.
The Kelvin scale was designed in a way for setting the zero point of the temperature scale at the point of the absolute zero. Due to this, the absolute zero is at K. Since the Kelvin temperature scale has a direct relation with the absolute zero, it is widely used in scientific calculations and equations. The Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution theory and the statistical definition of the term entropy got introduced, the basis for defining the absolute scale changed to the kinetic theory of gases.
