The three domains of life were given by Carl Wose in 1977. He classified the cellular organism in three domains i.e Archaea, Eukarya and Bacteria on the basis of the structure of rRNA i.e., 16S rRNA. Because rRNA is the first requirement for protein synthesis in any organism that creates difference among the organisms.

Differences within the sequences of nucleotides within the cell's ribosomal RNAs (rRNA).
The cell's membrane lipid structure.
Its sensitivity to antibiotics.
There are many similarities and differences between the three domains. Bacteria and Archaea differ in how they gain energy. Bacteria gain energy either by being phototrophs, lithotrophs or organotrophs.
The last major similarity between domain Archaea and domain Bacteria is that they do not contain any organelles while domain Eukarya does. A difference between all three domains is what their cell walls contain. A cell membrane in the domain Archaea has peptidoglycan. The organisms that have a cell membrane in the domain Eukarya, will have a cell membrane made from polysaccharides. A cell membrane in the domain Bacteria contains neither peptidoglycan or polysaccharides.

Note:
The Three Domain System, developed by Carl Woese in 1990, may be a system for classifying biological organisms. Before Woese's discovery of archaea as distinct from bacteria in 1977, scientists believed there have been only two sorts of life: eukarya and bacteria.
