The process involves two stages which are meiosis I and meiosis II. In meiosis I there is the production of two daughter cells and then these daughter cells undergo reduction division in the meiosis II stage.

One parent cell divides into two daughter cells first and then these daughter cells divide themselves again in order to yield the four daughter cells.
