Hint: The endocrine glands produce the hormones directly into the blood. These hormones help in the regulation of body growth, metabolism etc.
Complete answer:
A gland is an organ which performs a particular function in the body. Endocrine glands is a group of glands that produce hormones and regulate the human body. Hormones are the chemical messengers which are produced by the body which helps in the transfer of information in cells and coordination between different organs. Different endocrine glands with their function and location are- 1) Hypothalamus: The hypothalamus is present in the middle part of the brain. It helps in releasing the hormone for pituitary gland. 2) Pituitary gland: It is found deep in the skull. Pituitary gland is the one of the master glands which controls the functioning of other glands like adrenal, thyroid gland. It stimulates the growth hormone and adrenal gland for the production of steroid hormone. Pituitary gland secretes prolactin which is helpful in the production of milk.
3) Pineal gland: It is situated in between the two halves of the brain. It secretes melatonin which influences the body for sleep.
4) Thyroid gland: It is located at the neck. It produces the thyroid hormone which helps in the regulation of metabolism. 5)Parathyroid gland: These are in the set of four tiny glands behind the neck which controls the calcium level.
6)Adrenal gland: These secrete adrenaline hormone which helps in facing the dangerous time or helps in avoiding it. It is also called fight or flight hormone.Present in the top of the kidney.
7)Pancreas: It is behind the stomach and secretes insulin and glucagon. It ensures that the appropriate amount of glucose enters the blood and in cells.
8)Ovaries: It makes estrogen and progesterone in females which helps in the regulation of menstrual cycle and helps in pregnancy. 9)Testes: It makes testosterone in males and plays a crucial role in the production of sperm.
Note: Pancreas is exocrine and endocrine gland as it helps in the production of digestive enzymes and secrete insulin and glucagon. There are many endocrine disorders when the level of hormones increase or decrease in the body.
