Hint: In the circulatory system, arteries and veins are two different blood vessels and they are mainly involved in circulating blood throughout the body. These two blood vessels are quite different from each other in terms of the functions they performed.
Complete answer:Blood is pumped out by the heart throughout the body. Body’s circulatory system as a whole is composed of arteries, veins, and capillaries and the main organ heart. Both the arteries and veins are joined with a huge interconnecting network of capillaries throughout the body.
Arteries- These blood vessels carry pure and oxygenated blood from the heart and transport it to the various organs of the body. Arteries are thick and elastic in nature and are red in color. They are comparatively higher in oxygen level. They further form small multiple interconnecting networks to transport the blood to every cell in the body known as capillaries. Only exception in the case of arteries is a pulmonary artery which carries the deoxygenated blood.
Veins- These blood vessels carry impure and deoxygenated blood. These vessels collect deoxygenated blood from all the organs and transport it back to the heart. Veins are fragile, thin, and elastic in nature and are blue in color. These are comparatively low in oxygen level. These lie closer to the skin. The only exception in the case of veins is pulmonary veins and umbilical veins which carry the oxygenated blood.
Capillaries are vessels that connect two different blood vessels i.e. arteries and veins. These vessels promote the exchange of elements between the blood and cells.
Note: Both the arteries and veins build a small interconnecting network i.e. capillaries which are very thin in nature and cause exchange of elements between the bloodstream and the connecting tissue.
