Ecology deals with the scientific study of the growth of living organisms in an environment. The environment can be biotic or abiotic. Biotic consist of all living organisms like plants, animals, insects, etc. whereas abiotic consists of non-living things like air, soil, temperature, etc.
Biosphere (‘bio’ means life and ‘sphere’ means area) can be defined as an area or a region of an environment where life exists. It can range from 10 km above sea level and 8 km in depth of the sea. The biosphere covers all the earth that is an entire part of the earth’s land, soil, and water in which living organisms are found is called the biosphere. The portion above sea level is known as the atmosphere, a portion having water present is known as the hydrosphere, and the portion of land is known as the lithosphere. The combined portion of the lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere is known as the biosphere.
The structural, as well as a functional unit of the biosphere, is an ecosystem. It can be a system of any size and can have various boundaries where biotic and abiotic components interact. Hence here we can say that a tree can be said to be an ecosystem as well as a forest can also be considered as an ecosystem.

In some cases, the biosphere might not contain life in it for example in polar regions due to very less temperature life there is very difficult whereas in tropical regions the temperature is favorable, there is proper rainfall, it is rich in flora and fauna hence life can be found in huge numbers.
