Duns lie between the lesser Himalaya and Shiwalik range. Dehradun, Patlidun, kothri dun and pinjore in Himachal pradesh are the examples of Duns. A valley is called Dun or Doon.
The scrub forests of the shiwalik range have been removed a long time ago. The hills of this range are facing erosion. The forest cover is completely lacking in the southern slope of Shiwalik range. These slopes which are very anatomized by the seasonal rivers are known as Chos. The northern part of Punjab plain has been eroded very intensively by various river streams which are called Chos.
