There are two types of diseases:
1. Infectious diseases - diseases that spread from one person to another.
2. Non-infectious diseases - diseases that do not spread from one person to another.

Difference between Infectious diseases and Non-infectious diseases
Infectious diseases Non-infectious diseases
They are caused due to the attack of pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, etc.They are caused by factors which are other than the pathogens.
They are communicable diseases that spread from one person to another. They are non-communicable diseases which do not spread from one person to another and remain within a person.
They are caused by extrinsic (external) factors.They are caused by extrinsic (external) factors
Transmission of diseases occurs through direct contact or some medium like air, water, etc.Transmission of diseases occurs in the case of hereditary diseases from parent to offspring.
Community and societal hygiene can reduce the risk and occurrence of this disease. Societal hygiene is ineffective in reducing the occurrence of diseases.
Example: Cholera, Malaria. Example: Diabetes, cancer.


Note: There are four types of diseases – Infectious diseases, deficiency diseases, hereditary diseases (including both genetic and non-genetic hereditary diseases), and physiological diseases.
