The Ahom kingdom was attacked by the Mughals in the year 1662. The Ahoms were the ruler of Assam. They formed the ethnic groups from the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. They were the mixed descendants of the Tai people. They reached the Brahmaputra valley of Assam in the year 1228. Later, they were joined by the local indigenous people over the time of history. This way they expanded their kingdom. Sibsagar came to be known as the final capital of the kingdom. They had their own Tai language which was later replaced by the Assamese language in the kingdom. They ruled the vast kingdom of Assam for approximately 600 years. The Mughals tried to attack the kingdom multiple times and interestingly they lost all the time.

The Ahoms were attacked by the Mughals several times but did not get hold of anything. Once they got hold of Guwahati but could not keep it for long. It was of all the Ahom Generals, Lachit Borphukan was one the famous and celebrated ones. He was counted among the heroes who fended off the Mughals again and again. He had a very skilled army that was expert in all forms of defence all at once. In the year 1662, the Ahom kingdom was attacked by the Mughals. The Mughal army was under the rule of Aurangzeb. This battle was famous as the battle of Saraighat. During this battle, Lachit knew that they would not be able to defeat the Mughals on the land. Here, Lachit showed his brilliance. So he forced the Mughal army into the Naval shore because he knew they would be weak there. And the Mughals did attack them through Saraighat and lost. They could never succeed to defeat the Ahoms.

The Mughals attacked the Ahom kingdom in 1662. They attacked under Mir Jumla. They got hold of Guwahati but that could not last long.
