Diastema is known as the gap that occurs between the two rows of teeth. The presence of diastema is dependent on the type of food that gets ingested by the animals like in herbivorous animals diastema occurs between the incisors and premolars but the animal is both omnivorous and the diastema is absent on them. Diastema is also referred to as the gap between the two teeth that occur due to the imbalance bond between jaw and size of teeth, which is common in upper incisors. This gap is generally 0.50 mm and also it can develop between any teeth. It does not cause any harm not it is a type of disease but in some cases, it can form by gum disease.
In the case of gum disease treatment includes removal of tartar from gum and tooth by scaling and in severe cases surgery was performed to treat the gum. In case diastema does not occur due to any kind of disease then treatment is not necessary but for the normal gap, treatment includes braces which by pressure fill the gap between the teeth. In case of the irregular size of teeth bonding, is done with the application of resin which is also known as veneers. For missing teeth implantation was done by placing a metal screw in the jaw.
