Election commission is responsible for election related problems. An Election Commission is a body which maintains the overall activities and responsibilities of the electioneering process at any stage in any country. Basically, Election Commission is known as several formal names based on their jurisdiction to jurisdiction, such as; Electoral Commission, Centre or State Election Commission, Election Board, Electoral Council and Electoral court.
In our country elections are conducted with fully independent charge and sensitively by the Election Commission of India.
Some wide ranging powers of Election Commission of India –
- EC takes the decision of every aspect of Model Code of Conduct regarding election conducting from the announcement of date or manner of elections till the declaration of results.
- EC implements the code of conduct and is liable for punishments to any candidate or party that breaks the rules and regulation and does violate.
- During the election period, the Election Commission can order the government in the terms of prevention of misuses of governmental power to enhance to win elections or transfer some government officials.
- When on election duty, government officers work under the Election Commission control and not under the government.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) is appointed by the President of India and they have tenure of 6 years or upto 65 years, whichever one is earlier. But once CEC appointed, the Chief Election Commissioner is not answerable to the President of India, PM or any other Ministers. Even if CEC is not in the favor of the Ruling party or Government, it is virtually impossible for the removal of CEC. The Constitution of India has given wide ranging powers to the Election Commission of India.
