Hint: Road accidents are a leading public health issue that results in the death of lakhs of people every year in India and around the world. With the increase in road transport over the years, studies show that traffic-related injuries are the leading cause of death among people between the ages of 15 and 29 years. Although traffic rules and guidelines have been set in place to avert accidents, the driver must ensure that these rules are being strictly followed. Awareness and education about road safety should be available to and adopted by all people.
Complete Step by Step answer: The causes of road accidents are mostly related to either the carelessness of the driver or the negligence of the pedestrian. Some of the major causes are lack of highway safety, drunken driving, speeding over the limit, rashness in driving, turning without a signal, overtaking from the wrong side, driving in wrong lanes, distraction while driving such as using the cell phone, etc. The civilians as well as the administration will have to work together to secure road safety. It is a collective responsibility that will prevent the harm of a lot of people.
Note: Road safety cannot be forced upon people, it has to be instilled. Ways to do so would be by making strict regulations and putting punishment and fines for disobeying said rules in place. Safety modules should be made mandatory in curriculum and the government should build and fix roadways. Driver training and driving tests for grant of a license should be taken seriously.
