Hint: Gobar gas is produced from anaerobic digestion of biological waste such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste. The digestion is carried out by microorganisms.

The biogas production is carried out in a closed container called the bioreactors. The typical gobar gas plant is a dome like structure built with bricks. It has the following chambers in which the waste is converted to gas.
1) Mixing tank - It is present above the ground. In these tanks all the waste is collected.
Inlet Chamber - It consists of pipes through which the waste from the mixing tank gets collected.
2) Digester - It is the heart of the bioreactor. It is set up underground so as to maintain the perfect anaerobic environment for the bacteria. The anaerobic fermentation by the methanogens takes place here. It has the outlet pipe connected which carries out the produce.
3) Outlet chamber - It is the tank which collects all the slurry or remaining fragments left out from the digester.
It takes around 7-10 days to produce biogas from a single feed.
Biogas obtained is a mixture of colourless and flammable gases. The chemical composition of the product is 50-85% methane, 20-35% carbon dioxide. Traces of $H_2$, $N_2$, $H_{2}S$.
Note: The advantages of biogas are that it is environment friendly. It is cost effective and reduces land filling. The bioreactors are easy to manage and the feed consists of the wastes. The products produced are used as fuel.
